Today is R U OK day.
Although here at SMAOK, we’re firm believers in checking in regularly with our staff members.
Let’s talk about it
We know that working in a fast-paced ever-changing industry like social media, can, at times, be incredibly stressful. After a while, it can cause staff to burn out. This isn’t limited to social – this can be applied to running your own business, raising kids, or studying.
We check in with our staff once a month to ask if they are okay, and if they need any help in any areas – workload, emotional support, mental health.
We always say that the door is open all year round anyway – but sometimes, having an allocated time to sit down and chat can help uncover hidden issues.
Asking the question is a start – but it can prompt the usual “yeah, I’m fine” response automatically. Try asking instead “is there anything I can do to help make your life easier today?”, “how are you coping with everything?” or “what’s on your plate today? I’m free, and happy to help.” These types of questions may prod a more open and honest reply.
So today, check in with your team and see if they are AOK.
